History of Allerton in Bloom

Allerton in Bloom has now been in existence for over 2 years and we have been meeting at the library every 3 weeks or so for planning purposes to raise money to make our local area more attractive. Every two months we hold a fundraiser to keep us afloat. Normally this is a coffee afternoon, but we have also held quiz evenings at Mossley Hill athletics Club in Nov 2008 and Sept 2009 which were very successful. We are very grateful to several churches in the area who have let us use their premises to enable us to hold these events. We are also very grateful to a band of ladies and gents who bake cakes for us two or three times a year for a homemade cake stall at our fundraisers. This stall has proved very popular. If you havenít been to one of our fundraisers yet do look out for posters in the library and in local shops advertising them and then come along and support us.

As you may have seen, over the past year we have been very busy adding to our flower display at the library by putting out flower tubs along Allerton Road. This could not have happened without the support of local people like yourself and the support we have received from grants that we have applied for and Liverpool City Council Councillors Fund.

Very recently we have been able to add to the flower tubs on Allerton Road with 6 new tubs on Rose Lane. In addition we will be replacing the flowers in the existing tubs with summer planting (hopefully these wonít get pinched as some of the shrubs in them have) and we hope to do more planting at the library, possibly with the introduction of a wild flower meadow.

We regularly send out e-mails with details of our fundraisers. If you would like to receive these please e-mail us at allertoninbloom@yahoo.co.uk and we will add you to our mailing list.

As you can see we have kept ourselves fairly busy, considering most of us work as well. If you are interested in joining us, either to help with fundraising, gardening or watering flower tubs, please contact us on our e-mail, telephone number or using the form attached. If you have any ideas for fundraising or planting please get in touch. We would be delighted to hear from you.
